Local moth records will shortly join the millions of records from around the UK on the central database for the National Moth Recording Scheme (NMRS). The county recorder Keith Naylor has been working with NMRS staff to validate the local records so that they can fill a large gap on the national distribution maps. The national database, which at the time of writing holds over 7.5 million records, will be supplemented by almost 50,000 records from Dumfries and Galloway. Once these have been uploaded onto the the National Biodiversity Network (NBN) Gateway, these will be available for people to see and will enable this website to use the information to display our own regional maps of each species. Its been a lot of work, but is a welcome development which will make our local information more accessible and more widely used.
