A new species has now been confirmed on the Dumfries and Galloway and Scottish moth list.  Peter Norman trapped an Obscure Wainscot Mythimna obsoleta near Auchencairn, the first confirmed record of this species north of the border.  Previous records of this species have also recently come to light, recorded by Euan McAlpine from a nearby location.

The species is scattered throughout England and Wales and is associated with Common Reed, its larval foodplant.
