Richard & Barbara Mearns on the weekend of 23/24 July 2010 were moth trapping on Luce Bay as part of a project they are doing regarding shingle habitat and came up with some very interesting species of moths confirmed by Keith Bland (National Museum of Scotland). Rhigognostis incarnatella, a micro moth of the Yponomeutidae family is new to the Region, with Anarsia spartiella (Gelechiidae), Epiblema uddmanniana and Epiblema roborana(Tortricidae), new to VC74 (Wigtownshire). Apotomis semifasciana is only the second record for the Region of this tortix, the first was found by Maitland Emmet on 15 July 1994 at Monreith, also VC74. Two specimens of Phlyctaenia coronata were trapped, this pyralid moth having been caught eight days earlier by Anna White and an earlier one on 25 June 2010 by Alison Robertson at Glencaple. The first record was trapped in 2005 at Kippford by Keith Naylor. It would appear then that this species is now colonising the Region.
