Life cycle

One generation. Overwinters as a pupa attached to a birch leaf. Larvae late July to late September.

Downy Birch and Silver Birch.

Habitat

Mainly woodland and heathland where birch grows.

History 1860-2010

The first record for Dumfries and Galloway was for VC73 in 1973 at Bridge of Dee, near Castle Douglas in the Rothamsted moth trap.   The first record for VC72 was in 1982 at the Barony College, Dumfries by Pelham-Clinton.
