Identification
The dull green rounded forewing, fading to a yellowish or brownish colour with age has numerous fine wavy black lines and a dark central band edged with fine white. Hindwings are brownish-grey with chequered fringes.
Recording method
Easily disturbed by day from trees, rocks, fences and hedgerows, comes in small numbers to light.
Life cycle
One generation. Overwinters as a small larva during September to May. Pupation taking place in plant debris.
Larval foodplants
Larvae feed on bedstraws.
Habitat
Woodland and moorland.
History
First recorded in Dumfries and Galloway in 1820 for VC72 at Raehills by Little, in 1862 for VC73 near Terregles by Lennon and in 1903 at Luce Bay by Garraway who collected and bred on several larvae from Alticry Glen.
