Usually distinctive.

Recording method

Flies by day, particularly in sunshine.

Life cycle

One generation. Overwinters as a pupa. Larvae mid June to early August. Pupates underground or in plant debris.

Larval foodplants

Wood Sage.

Habitat

Mainly open woodland, but also scrub and bushy grassland.

History

First recorded for Dumfries and Galloway in 1860 for VC72 near Dumfries by Lennon, in 1862 for VC73 in Mabie Forest also by Lennon and in 1912 near Cairn Ryan by Gordon.
