Recording Method

Rests on tree trunks or host fungus.  Flies in morning sunshine, in the afternoon and at dusk. Attracted to light.

Life cycle

Flight season May to August, possibly two generations.  Larvae September to May, feeds within the fungus.

Larval foodplants

Bracket fungi, especially Fomitopsis betulinus and Trametes versicolor.

Habitat

Woodland.

History

The first record for D&G was one netted at Highgate Moss (VC72) on 29 July 2025. Confirmed by dissection.
