Life cycle

Larvae: May-July in a folded-over leaf edge or in spun shoots.  Adults: July-October.

Larval foodplants

Willow species, poplar species and birch species, Hazel, Common Alder.

History

The first for Dumfries & Galloway was published in Stephens (1834) with the Rev. William Little recording it at Raehills, Dumfriesshire, while the first for Kirkcudbrightshire was found at an unknown locality in the west on 25th August 1978 by Sir Arthur Duncan, the specimen now at National Museums Scotland, with the Wigtownshire first being found at Whithorn on 12th October 1958 by E. C. Pelham-Clinton.
