Recording method

Flies in sunshine, the males often swarming round tops of trees and bushes while the females skulk in the undergrowth.

Life cycle

Larvae present July-February.  Adults April-July.

Larval foodplants

Dead leaves.

History

The first for Dumfries & Galloway was found at at Kirkconnell Flow NNR, Kirkcudbrightshire, on 10th May 1978 by Sir Arthur Duncan, specimen now at National Museums Scotland, while the first for Dumfriesshire was found at Tynron on 21st June 1980, again by Sir Arthur Duncan, with the specimen at National Museums Scotland.
