Identification
Greyish-brown with a slight metallic sheen. Has two distinct cross lines with an elbow curved line towards the rearwing.
Recording method
Attracted to light but easily disturbed from vegetation in the field.
Flight period
Late June-early September.
Larval foodplants
Grasses, particularly fine leaved grasses such as fescues.
Habitat
Grassland.
History
The first for Dumfries & Galloway was found near Monreith during July 1899 by K. J. Morton, the specimen now at National Museums Scotland, while the first for Kirkcudbrightshire was found at Rockcliffe in early August 1992. There are no records from Dumfriesshire.
