Oak species; occasionally Acer species or Hornbeam.

History

The first for Dumfries & Galloway was found at Needles Eye near Caulkerbush, Kirkcudbrightshire, on 20th July 1963 by E. C. Pelham-Clinton, while the first for Dumfriesshire was found at Castlehill in Kirkmahoe parish on 4th July 1976 by Sir Arthur Duncan, the specimen at National Museums Scotland.
