Recording method

Larvae are found in bark and exude red frass.  Adults emerge in the morning and can be found low down on tree-trunks until about 11 am.

Life cycle

Larvae present March-April, adults June-July.

Larval foodplants

Oak species, Horse-chestnut or occasionally Birch species.

History

The first for Dumfries & Galloway was found at Caerlaverock, Dumfriesshire, on 13th June 1981, while the first for Kirkcudbrightshire was found at Hannaston Wood SSSI on 21st June 1996 during a Scottish Entomologists’ gathering.
