Life cycle

Larvae: April-May, ?June-July, in a stem, exuding frass and causing the stem to turn brown.  Moves from stem to stem.  Adults: May-July, July-September.

Common Spike-rush, Compact Rush.

History

The first for Dumfries & Galloway was found on Auchencairn Bay, Kirkcudbrightshire, on 27th June 2003, while the first for Wigtownshire was found at Airyolland Lodge on Luce Bay on 4th July 2011, with the Dumfriesshire first being found at Caerlaverock on 28th June 2014 during a Scottish Entomologists’ gathering.
