Resident, rare, very local. Nationally Scarce. Scarce in damp woodland scattered throughout northern England, north Wales and the western half of Scotland.

Identification

Care is needed in separating this species from Barred Rivulet, Yellow-barred Brindle and Foxglove Pug. Specimen or quality photo required for record acceptance.

Recording method

Comes to light in ery small numbers.

Life cycle

One generation. Overwinters as a larva, during August to May.

Larval foodplants

Larval foodplant not known in the wild.

Habitat

Damp woodland.

History

First recorded for Dumfries and Galloway in 1950 for VC72 at Langholm by Pelham-Clinton, and in 2010 for VC73 at Kirriereoch by Geoff Shaw.  It has not yet been recorded for VC74.
