Resident. Scarce. The northward spread of this rare species resulted in the first record in 2015, followed by two more in 2017. Now established at a number of sites in the region.

Identification

Unmistakable.

Recording Method

Attracted to light. Flies from dusk and occasionally disturbed by day

Life cycle

Overwinters as a pupa just under the ground or in plant debris. Larva are present from mid-July to late September.

Larval foodplants

Bilberry.

Habitat

Open woodland but also moorland and heathland.

Stragglers can be noted away from usual breeding areas.
