Recording method

Found on tree trunks and posts during the day.  Comes to light.

Life cycle

Larvae feed July-October in an upwardly-folded leaf held together by a series of think silk strands.  Adults fly April-July.

Larval foodplants

Birch species, Common Alder, occasionally Italian Alder.

History

The first for Dumfries & Galloway was found at Kirkconnell Flow NNR, Kirkcudbrightshire, on 15th June 1978 by Sir Arthur Duncan, specimen at National Museums Scotland, while the first for Dumfriesshire was found at an unknown site by a person unknown prior to 2001 (MOGBI data).
