Recording method

Can be swept from the foodplant by day.  Comes to light.

Life cycle

Larvae feed in spun leaves on the central shoot, leaving a characteristic mass of black frass.  The larvae then bore into the central stem creating a swelling.  Adults fly June-August.

Larval foodplants

Red Campion; less often White Campion or Sticky Catchfly.

History

The first for Dumfries & Galloway was found at an unknown site in Kirkcudbrightshire by a person unknown prior to 2001, while the first for Wigtownshire came to MV light on 2nd August 2012 in Dunskey Glen and was determined by genitalia.
