Resident. Rare.

Recording method

Flies by day low over sandy areas or among marram grass.  Comes to light.

Life cycle

Larvae feed in May in a sand-covered silken tube attached to the underside of moss (occasionally on upper side).  Adults June-September.

Larval foodplants

Various mosses (Barbula convoluta or Brachythecium albicans).

History

The first for Dumfries & Galloway was found on Auchencairn Bay, Kirkcudbrightshire, on 29th July 2004.
