Attracted to light and sugar.

Life cycle

One generation. Overwinters as an egg on the foodplant. Larvae late April to July. Pupates in a cocoon between leaves or in leaf litter..

Larval foodplants

Mainly Aspen, also other poplars.

Habitat

Broadleaved woodland but as a migrant could appear anywhere.

History

The first record for D&G was one to light near Whithorn (VC74) on 8th October 2023. This was followed by one at Kirkton (VC72) in October 2024 and Blackcraig (VC73) twice in September 2025.
