Life cycle
One or two generations. Overwinters as a pupa underground. Larvae appear from mid-July to mid-September.
Larval foodplants
Larvae feed on poplars and willows; also possibly Hazel.
Habitat
Woodland, scrub, heathland and wetland.
History
The first record for Dumfries and Galloway was in in 1829 for VC72 at Raehills by Little, in 1913 for VC74 at Dowalton Loch by Gordon and in 1930 for VC73 at Southerness by Duncan.
