Life cycle

Larvae present September-June, adults June-August.  The case is nearly black, in contrast to that of Coleophora peribenanderi whose case is pale.

Larval foodplants

Common Knapweed, Greater Knapweed, Lesser & Wood Burdock, Saw-wort, thistles.

History

The first for Dumfries & Galloway was found at an unknown site in Dumfriesshire by a person unknown prior to 1996 (MOGBI data), as was the first for Kirkcudbrightshire, with the Wigtownshire first being of a larval case found on Knapweed leaves at West Barr on Luce Bay on 29th April 2011.
