Identification

Unique among the Eriocraniidae in having a dark grey larva (all the others are whitish).  Occasionally comes to light.

Life cycle

Mines: April-May.  Adults fly March=-April.

Birch species.

History

The first record for Dumfries & Galloway was of leaf-mines found on Betula at Torrs Warren, Wigtownshire, on 29th April 2011.   Tenanted mines of this species were found in Castle Wood, Caerlaverock, in May 2015 to confirm its existence in Dumfriesshire.
