Identification

A well marked species. The postmedian line extends for a short distance perpendicular to the dorsum and then turns abruptly through ~90° towards the wing edge.

Recording method

Attracted to light. Often disturbed in the field.

Flight period

Late June-August

Larval food

Lichens.

Habitat

Rocks, trees and dykes. Mostly coastal.

History

The first for Dumfries & Galloway was found at the Mull of Galloway, Wigtownshire, on 23rd July 1994, while the first for Kirkcudbrightshire was found at Balcary Heughs on 13th August 2000. No records from Dumfriesshire.
