Identification

A dark brown moth with sub-basal lines and raised scale tufts on the upper forewing which differentiate if from the the similar Matilella fusca.

Recording method

Attracted to light.

Flight period

June-August.

Larval foodplants

Birches.

Habitat

Woodland and parks.

History

The first for Scotland and Dumfries & Galloway was found at Parkgate, Dumfriesshire, on 8th July 1982 during a Scottish Entomologists’ gathering. No records from Kirkcudbrightshire or Wigtownshire.
