Identification

Beware confusion with the male Epiphyas postvittana whose costa is strongly arched and has thread-like antennae, compared to bipectinate antennae in the male of this species.

Life cycle

Larvae May-June in spun leaves and flower-heads.  Adults: July-September.

Larval foodplants

Potentilla species (Cinquefoils, Silverweed, Tormentil etc), Vaccinium species (Blaeberry, Cowberry, Crranberry), Bog Myrtle, Thrift.  Also Sitka Spruce.

History

The first for Dumfries & Galloway was found at Kirkconnell, Kirkcudbrightshire, on 30th July 1976 by Sir Arthur Duncan, who found the first for Dumfriesshire at Kettleton on 13th July 1977, both specimens at National Museums Scotland.
