The first record for D&G (and Scotland) was one attracted to light at Kippford (VC73) on 2 July 2022. This was quickly followed by two further records at Blackcraig and Kirkcudbright (both VC73).

Identification

Diagnostic feature is the presence of a prominent white patch towards the trailing edge of the a blackish-grey forewing, not reaching the leading edge.

Recording Method.

Attracted to light.

Life cycle

One generation. Overwinters as a pupa in an underground cocoon. Flight season late May to July.

Larval foodplants

Grasses and sedges.

Habitat

The initial D&G records were in gardens. Elsewhere mainly fens, marshes and wet heathland/moorland.
