Recording method

Active by day, often flying around the foodplant; occasionally comes to light.

Life cycle

Larvae present April-October, feeding under a mass of spun sporangia – sometimes visible from above as brown blotches.  Adults fly February-December.

Larval foodplants

Ferns including Asplenium species (including Hart’s-tongue Fern), Dryopteris filix-mas and Polystichum setirefum.

History

First record for Dumfries and Galloway was from Dumfries on 27 August 2020.
