Scarce Purple & Gold

Pyrausta ostrinalis
Adult: 2
Resident. Local.

Very similar to P.purpuralis and is best verified from a specimen by an expert. The pale subterminal line on the underside of the wing curves to meet the postmedian line at the costa. Markings are generally paler but faded specimens of related species confuse this identification feature.

Recording method

Found in the field on sunny days. May be attracted to light.

Flight period

Double brooded. April-August.

Larval foodplants

Short Grassland.
