Identification
Adults may never have been found in the wild in the UK (April-June dates appear to have been based on reared specimens).
Life cycle
Larvae present July-August, feeding in the stem and ejecting pale brown frass from holes mostly at the nodes. Adults poss April-June.
Larval foodplants
Broad-leaved or Curled Dock.
Habitat
Sandy and shingle beaches.
History
The first for Dumfries & Galloway was of a few larvae found on Rumex crispus at Cairnryan, Wigtownshire, on 28th June 1988 by E. C. Pelham-Clinton, who the next day found the first for Kirkcudbrightshire, also, of several larvae on Rumex crispus at Carrick, near Borgue, on 29th June 1988. No records from Dumfriesshire.
