The second edition of the ‘Checklist of Moths for Dumfries & Galloway’ has been published in March 2014 and is available to download in pdf format. Inside this 2nd edition we have adopted the new taxonomic order and renumbering of species that is published in the Checklist of the Lepidoptera of the British Isles by Agassiz,http://dgmoths.info/wp-content/uploads/Checklist-of-Moths-for-Dumfries-and-Galloway-2nd-Edition-Mar-2014.pdf Beavan & Heckford (2013) (known as ABH).
Since the 1st edition was published in 2011, we have discovered a fine collection of specimens in the National Museums of Scotland, resulting in over 5,000 more records and some new species and validation of others. And, during this intervening period, we are discovering mainly new micro moths each year as observers’ interest grows, plus the occasional new macro, as per the Devon Carpet recently. All of this has increased our knowledge of the species in Dumfries & Galloway.
