Identification
Broad forewing with variable pattern of black spots. Male dark greyish brown, female whitish.
Recording Method
Attracted to light. Male nocturnal and readily comes to light Female active by day.
Life cycle
One generation. Overwinters as a pupa. Larvae are present mid June to early September.

Many herbaceous plants, including docks, plantains and Red Dead-nettle.
Habitat
Many open habitats including open woodland, sand dunes, gardens and hedgerows.
