Identification
Checking the hindwing to eliminate other species (eg Knot Grass) is important. The male has a whitish one with the females having grey or greyish-white hindwings.

Attracted to light.
Life cycle
One generation. Overwinters as a pupa. Larvae are present July to September.

Aspen and poplars.
Habitat
Woodland, parks, gardens and other habitats with the larval foodplants of Aspen and other poplars.
History
First record was by Sir Arthur Duncan who had found it in Kirkmahoe parish, Dumfries, on 1st July 1972.
Twenty-five years later, there were four records from Kirkton during 1997-2001, followed by three from Auchencairn, singularly in 2002, 2003, and 2007. One was trapped at Lochfoot in 2010.
