Recording method

To find a larval case, sift through leaf litter at the base of trees in March and April.  Adults fly in early morning, afternoon and at night.

Life cycle

Larvae present July-April, feeding on the ground in a portable case made from a folded-over section of leaf.  Adults May-July.

Larval foodplants

Decaying leaves, mosses, lichens and dead insects.

History

The first for Dumfries & Galloway was found at Almorness, Kirkcudbrightshire, in June 2022 by Richard and Barbara Mearns.
