Mediterranean Flour Moth

Identification

A slender grey moth which is similar to related species but considered te hcommenest Ephestia in the UK. Dissection may be required for confident identification.

Recording method

Can be attracted to light but most commonly recorded  in-situ from buidlings.

Flight Period

Anytime of the year.

Larval food

Stored products including flour and chicken feed.

Habitat

Warehouses, bakeries, flour-mills, kitchens. Not likely to be found outside.

History

Recorded from a house in Kirkton in 2018 by Richard and Barbra Mearns. Then from Hightae in 2023 by Malcolm Haddow, where two were found in chicken feed tubs. No records known from Kirkcudbirghtshire or Wigtownshire.
