Life cycle

Larvae: May-July in spun shoots.  Adults: October-December.

Larval foodplants

On hills and moorland: Heather, Bell Heather, Bog Myrtle, Vaccinium species (Blaeberry, Cowberry, Cranberry), Potentilla species (Tormentil, cinquefoils, Silverweed).  In lowland areas: hawthorn species, privet species.

History

The first for Dumfries & Galloway was found at Black Loch, near Ae, Dumfriesshire, on 16th October 1977 by Sir Arthur Duncan, specimen at National Museums Scotland.
