Usually distinctive. Care required, potential confusion with Mottled Rustic, Uncertain and Rustic.

Recording Method.

Attracted to light, also comes to sugar and flowers.

Life cycle

Two generations. Overwinters as a larva. Llarvae September to April and August to September. Pupates in a cocoon underground.

Larval foodplants

A wide range of herbaceous plants including docks, Dandelion and Primrose.

Habitat

Grassland, heathland, woodland rides and weedy places.

History

The first record for D&G was one trapped at Kirkton, near Dumfries (VC72) on 26 September 2023.
