Life cycle

Recorded in Britain late September to late November. In mainland Europe two generations. Overwinters as a larva and pupates underground. Larvae have not been recorded in Britain.

Larval foodplants

Trefoils and clovers in mainland Europe.

Habitat

As a migrant, could appear anywhere but perhaps more likely at coastal sites.

History

The first record for D&G (and for Scotland) was one to light at Changue Port, Luce Bay (VC 74) on 6 October 2024. Two more were recorded nearby on 7 October 2024 with a further one at Kirkton (VC 72) on 15 October 2024 and one near Whithorn (VC74) on 22 October 2024. These records coincided with a large influx into southern England.
